Graduate student David LaPorte has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to Guatemala to develop cost-effective ways for residents of at-risk communities to monitor the movement of large landslides on which they live.  He will complete his work in Guatemala from January-December 2017.  David is working with his advisor, Dr. Paul Santi, on the project, as well as department graduates Ethan Faber (who completed his MS thesis in the same location), Alex Strouth (whose company BGC Engineering has supported and supervised some of the technical work), and Edy Manolo Barillas-Cruz (who provides local coordination in his work as National Assessor for United Nations OCHA in Guatemala City).
